When is the best time of year to visit the Ferguson Valley?

Autumn

This is our golden season. The vineyards are ripe with colour the morning mists begin to roll in, and there’s a calm that settles across the hills. Its still warm enough for swims, but crisp enough for a fire during May.

Perfect for: Road trippers, nature lovers, foodies, hikers, and those craving a slower pace.

Tips

  • Pack layers. Sunny days, chilly evenings.

  • Mountain bike trails, take advantage of local trail transfer companies such as Forest Explorers.

Winter

Winter is our favourite time of year. The rain falls, the dams fills, the fireplaces are lit and the world slows down in the most wonderful way. If you love moody skies, misty walks, deep thinking - winter in the valley is for you. When the weather keeps you indoors? We’ve got you covered. Our house has a great collection of classic games and ping pong table!

Tips

  • Bring boots for exploring.

  • Watch the seasonal Ferguson River swell and walk the misty ridges.

Spring

Wildflowers burst, the birds return, and the whole valley hums back to life. This is the time for the curious traveller, those who don’t mind a bit of unpredictability, love a spontaneous find and want to see this place before summer returns.

Perfect for: Adventurers - mountain bikers, nature photographers.

Tips

  • It is a beautiful time to hike or bike - the trails are softer and the air is full of birdsong.

Summer

Think warm days, cool dips and lazy afternoons. You’ll find the local wineries and breweries alive - open decks, grazing platters, live music, and movie nights at the local winery. Our valley takes advantage of the valley breezes for cooling in the summer.

Perfect for: Families, friend groups, gnome hunters, poolside loungers.

  • Book advance, especially during school holidays

  • Visit Welling Dam mural enjoy ice creams at nearby Dam kiosk or grab a cheeky local wine at one of the local wineries.
